How are our Hoops different from toy hoops?
Our Hoops are slightly bigger, a little heavier, and a whole lot prettier than kids lightweight toy hoops! They help beginners keep their momentum going for a great cardiovascular workout. As your skill improves, the weight helps to maintain control of your movement and build muscle tone. All of our hoops are handmade here in Rochester, NY by Master Hoopsmith Keith Moore, who has custom made over 5,000 hoops-including hoops for celebrities such as Joy Bauer, Kathy Lee, Hoda, Tim Gunn, Harley Pasternak, Eminem’s daughter and more!
Are your hoops weighted?
Our Hoops are heavier than regular toy hoops due to their size and decoration. Our hoops are not “weighted”. We do not recommend weighted hoops for CardioHoop as they can be uncomfortable to use. They are a pound and a half by virtue of materials (tubing/tape), not with anything added! Cardio hoops are 1.5lbs and 42-46 inches in diameter.
What can I expect from my first class?
Get ready to laugh, sweat and have some fun! We will take you through the moves step by step, at your own pace. Before you know it, you will be moving gracefully, and incorporating your own style. No matter what your level, you are sure to get a great cardiovascular workout. You’ll begin with foundational moves such as waist hooping, hip hooping, and halos (spinning the hoop with your hands above the head), and your calorie burn starts at 420 calories an hour!
What should I wear?
Hooping is all about movement and your clothing should allow freedom for that. We have found that the best thing to hoop in is stretchy jeans, yoga pants, or other natural fiber material. Try not to wear synthetics such as nylon or rayon, as the hoop tends to slip, making the learning process more difficult.
What do you mean by, “Hoop Your Way to Health and Happiness”?
Hooping is a fun activity for generations to enjoy together. Because at the Beginning Level it is a non-impact exercise, people of all ages will enjoy Hooping. Even pregnant and post-partum women can enjoy Hooping. Once you begin to hoop, you may enjoy being a part of a community of individuals we call “Hoopers”. It’s like having a membership to a special club. Get to know other Hoopers in your area! Before you know it, you will have opened yourself up to a whole new experience; one with its roots in ancient times but with a whole new “twist”.
You may find yourself hesitant at first, but once you’ve learned that first move, you may find yourself addicted to practicing and mastering each move. You may notice an increase in energy, or that you have become slimmer. You may find yourself more joyful and less stressed out. You may even find yourself more creatively self expressed, both in the hoop, and in other areas of your life!
Hooping is beautiful, transformative and mesmerizing. It can be used as a tool for fitness, meditation, or playing. More than anything else, it is FUN. We invite you to begin your own journey, learn to Hoop with Roc City Hoopdance, and Hoop Your Way to Health and Happiness!

Keith and Jen have been married for almost 20 years, and have four beautiful children: Mairi (16), Elijah (12), Lachlan (9) & Kailen (4).
They both had a lifetime of unhealthy habits and lack of physical activity dating back to childhood. After their daughter, Catriana, was stillborn in January 2007, they spent the next year grieving, soothing themselves with a sedentary lifestyle and comfort food. They watched their weight balloon to over 300lbs each.
After giving birth to a healthy, beautiful baby (Eli), Jen began hooping in September 2009, wearing a size 26. She taught herself, because there were no hoop instructors anywhere in Upstate NY!
It took nearly 3 weeks for her to learn to hoop , but she did not give up! She committed at least 15 minutes each day to hooping and began to change her eating habits. She lost 9lbs in the first month, and the weight began melting off.
Keith was inspired by Jen’s results and took up hooping himself. He saw how fun it was and wanted to learn, so Jen taught him! In the next year, Keith lost over 120lbs and Jen lost over 150lbs!
In 2010, they became certified Hoopnotica Instructors. In 2011, they became 2 of 5 Master Trainers for Hoopnotica. In 2012, Jen became the Director of Teacher Development for Hoopnotica and in 2014, Keith became the Director of Content Development for them as well, developing his own hula hoop fitness workout video.
They have appeared locally, nationally and internationally on tv and print media-the Today Show multiple times, Dr Oz multiple times, The Doctors, The Revolution, People Magazine and more.
In 2015, they left Hoopnotica to launch their own national company Cerceau, a choreographed Hoop Dance and Fitness class.
